4Motion 

4Motion is Volkswagen’s term for its four-wheel drive models. The engine power is sent to both the front and the rear axle in vehicles utilising this. 

The benefit of 4Motion is more traction in slippery conditions, this is useful for gravelled roads, rural lanes and remote campsites.

Ambient Lighting

Ambient lighting refers to the lighting system used in CamperKing campervans to illuminate the living area of the campervan at night in low light conditions. 

 

Barn Doors

These are one of the two rear door options on a VW Transporter. 

Barn doors comprise twin doors hinged on the side of the van and rotate about a vertical point. 

 

Berth

Berth refers to the number of sleeping spaces that the campervan will accommodate.

 

Business Pack

A specification upgrade usually applied to Startline Transporters, featuring the addition of cab air conditioning, rear parking sensors and cruise control. 

 

Campervan Conversion

A campervan conversion is a campervan that has been built bespoke using an existing van as the base vehicle.

All of our campervans are built using VW Transporter panel vans and are converted into luxury campervans at our dedicated production facility.

Diesel Heater

A diesel heater is the type of night heater that we use in CamperKing campervans. Diesel heaters utilise diesel fuel to heat the campervan when the engine is switched off. 

As all of our campervans are diesel VW Transporters, the diesel heaters we use are connected directly to the vehicle’s fuel tank to supply them fuel. This means that there is no need for a separate fuel tank. 

 

DSG

Short for Direct Shift Gearbox, DSG campervans have the ease of an automatic but with the responsiveness of a manual. 

DSG vehicles utilise a dual-clutch system and can either be used with the fully automatic gearbox or as a responsive quick-shift manual.

Electric Hookup

An electric hookup is a power outlet at a campsite which is utilised with a mains cable to enable you to power the electric appliances in your campervan. 

 

Gas Locker

A gas locker is the storage compartment for the bottle in your campervan. 

Mandatory for safety, gas lockers are a sealed unit and are equipped with a vent that allows the gas to escape in the event of the gas bottle leaking. 

 

Habitation Check 

A habitation check is an annual check that we undertake on your campervan to ensure that it is safe to stay in. 

Our campervan habitation checks include gas retesting, electrical performance tests and water system checks. For you to preserve your CamperKing campervan’s lifetime warranty, we ask that you bring it back to us annually for a habitation check.

Hardstanding

A hardstanding is the name often given to a campervan’s pitch at a campsite. 

This is typically an area surfaced with a hard material that provides a convenient space to park your vehicle. 

 

Highline

The Highline is the highest spec VW Transporter. 

Typically, a Highline VW Transporter provides features including air conditioning, a heated windscreen, automatic headlights, electric and heated door mirrors, front fog lights, rain sensing windscreen wipers, adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors.

 

Hire Purchase
Hire Purchase (HP) is a way to finance a new or used vehicle.

You pay a deposit and pay off the remaining value of the vehicle in monthly instalments.  

 

Kombi
Kombi comes from the German word, Kombinationskraftwagen, which means combination motor vehicle. With windows and removable rear seats, it is both a passenger and a cargo vehicle combined.

 

Leisure Battery
A leisure battery is a 12v power source that constantly flows and is used to power lights, ovens and other smaller appliances.

LWB

LWB is short for long wheelbase. We currently build our campervan conversions on VW Transporter T6.1 vans, which are available in LWB and SWB (short wheelbase). 

The LWB version of a VW Transporter T6.1 is 5.3m long, whilst the SWB version is 4.9m.

Panel Van
A VW Transporter panel van is a light commercial vehicle that is primarily used as a delivery van because of its large interior carrying capacity.

Most of the campervans available from us begin their journey as a VW Transporter panel van.

Pop Top Roof
A pop top roof is a feature of a Volkswagen Transporter conversion. It is an upgrade to a campervan which can be raised for extra headroom height and provides an extra bed.

PMS

PMS stands for Power Management System. This is the control system used inside your campervan to control functions such as the lights and water pump and to monitor the conversion’s essential system, such as water level and battery health. 

 

PS

PS stands for pferdestärke, a German word that translates to horse strength in English. 

This is the most commonly used measurement of measuring engine power in Europe and is the exact equivalent of horsepower. 

 

RIB Bed
A RIB Bed, when pulled out, means you sleep on the opposite side to what you would sit on when it is folded up to the seating position. 

 

Rock and Roll Bed
A Rock and Roll Bed, when pulled out, means you sleep on top of the seats you would usually sit on when it is folded up to the seating position.

 

Shuttle
The VW Transporter Shuttle is available as a five or nine-seater vehicle, including the driver. It is the perfect vehicle for airports, hotels and taxi companies to transport passengers, they are also suitable for converting into a campervan.

 

Startline 
The Startline is the entry-level spec VW Transporter. 

Typically, a Startline VW Transporter has features including remote central locking, a 6.5” touchscreen, electric front windows, heated door mirrors, power steering and interior LED lighting.

 

SWB

SWB is short for short wheelbase. 

We currently build our campervan conversions on VW Transporter T6.1 vans, which are available in SWB and LWB (long wheelbase). 

The SWB version of a VW Transporter T6.1 is 4.9m long, whilst the LWB version is 5.3m.

Tailgate

These are one of the two rear door options on a VW Transporter. 

A tailgate comprises one door hinged on top of the van and rotates about a horizontal point. 

 

Travelling Seats

These are the seats in a campervan that are used by the driver and passengers whilst driving. 

 

Two Tone

Two tone refers to a campervan that utilises a custom combination of colours, with the top layer of the vehicle a different colour than the bottom layer.

VW Transporter

The VW Transporter is a van series that has been produced by Volkswagen since 1949. 

We currently build our campervan conversions on VW Transporter T6.1 vans. These were first launched in 2019 and continue to be produced.
